The spirit of the Chinese quarter
The main character in this film is not a person but a particular place, so called Chinese quarter in the city of Novi Sad/Serbia. Our guides are Andrej (10) and his dog (China, 12). The boy is passionate about gadgets. He puts small cameras everywhere, on his bike, skateboard, kite, drone, on his dog. For Andrej and China this place is home.
Bad news spread around the quarter: all the workshops will be demolished, all the craftsmen evicted and something unknown shall replace them. The locals, including Andrej’s father, mobilise in an attempt to stop this. Andrej and China find themselves in the middle of the conflict. We see the process of gentrification through their eyes.
In the middle of the havoc, few introduced characters show up, such as the Moaning woman or mysterious Chinese delegation that appears at the end of the film.

Ivana Pejak is a filmmaker born in Novi Sad,
Serbia. In 2020 Ivana finished her BA in
Audiovisual and Dramatic Arts – Film and
TV Editing, at Academy of Arts Novi Sad.
Since 2019, she has worked as a film editor
on multiple short documentary, fiction and
experimental films and was part of residential
programs. Currently, Ivana is part of the
KinoEyes Master program.
