Pepik the Czech Goes to Poland In a Quest for Love of God

In the middle of Europe, two nations coexist side by side, close to one another in many ways and yet worlds apart. The Czechs are dedicated atheists, while the Poles are born as baptized Catholics. Czechs shake their heads in disbelief at Polish piety, while Poles hold Czechs in contempt for living without God. A Czech documentary crew sets out on a summertime pilgrimage across Poland in order to investigate through the camera the concrete situation regarding the notion of Czech atheism vs. Polish religion.

Marcela drank like a fish, sometimes even a liter of hard alcohol a day. And now she pursued her dream of participating in the 2021 Olympics in Japan. Did she want to win for herself or is she still running away from something? Just in another guise, this time healthier and generally accepted way? Our sports-psychological film begins with this black-and-white perspective.
After a few months, however, Marcela stops filming after our mutual quarrel. We took a break, during which I realized our frame of attitude. As if there were right and wrong people. As if we wanted to make a film about how Marcela (34) transforms from an unhealthy girl to a healthy one and how she is struggling with it, because addiction is not treated during the process, but only replaced.
I used to ask: Does Marcela realize who is she becoming while entering the world of top sports? A machine that sports doctors talk about as a car with a gearbox? A business item that zigzags among the claims of sponsors? The ideal of social networks that perfectly meets today's criteria of a successful woman? A body so whipped that it gambles with the ability to have children? Is she aware of the extent to which participation in the Olympics is a political act by which the athlete expresses her yes to the all-consuming purpose of purpose? Where has the ordinary joy of running gone? Where is our world actually running to? And where is Marcela running to?
After a few months of pause, I just ask: who is Marcela? Czech runners know her as the third fastest Czech marathoner of all time. I would like to show her closer, the ordinary way, how she gets angry when something doesn't work out, how she and her brother Peter are rolling on the ground laughing.
