Life of a Cinemaniac – Menahem Golan
He was born with a boundless love for the motion pictures. He co-invented modern day Israeli cinema. He once threatened a pilot with a machine gun just to continue shooting. He conquered Hollywood and defined the 80s action-flick. He discovered Jean Claude van Damme, Chuck Norris and Sharon Stone. He once sold his refrigerator and later his apartment to finance a movie. He courageously fought for independent film-making in a studio controlled Hollywood. He was called an artist, a cheap b-flick director, a ruthless businessman, a hack and an inspiration. He worked with Sly Stallone and Michael Dudikoff as well as with John Cassavettes and Jean Luc Godard. In his peak time he produced 49 films in one year. That is more than all the major studios did together. Menahem Golan is a phenomenon in filmmaking. This is his story. “My only real crime was loving cinema too much” Menahem Golan
