The Last Lesson

After almost sixty years of research in theater practice and acting, Ewa Benesz decides to leave Italy and return to Lublin to finalize her life’s work. Lublin is the city she fled during Poland’s martial laws of the early eighties. On her return to Lublin, Ewa’s advancing fragility and age interrupt her workshops, which involve people from all over the world. Ewa Benesz will have to say goodbye to her students, some of whom have had a bond with her that has lasted for decades.
Ewa’s theatrical practice and research draw from tradition and practice that can only be transmitted solely, and personally, so there is a strong risk that her knowledge will be lost forever. Also Ewa’s return to Poland and Polish society reveal the personal burden of a lifetime away from home.
