Synopse
Worldwide, Neo Rauch is one of the most successful German painters. His pictures captivate viewers through their inscrutability, their figures seemingly removed from time, engaging in their activities like sleepwalkers. Surfacing repeatedly are illusions – references to his biography. But these pictorial goings-on are never concrete. Rauch refers to his hometown in a restrained yet persistent way. In his visual universe, the question is always: Who are we? Where do we come from? This documentary focuses on his invented figures, but also his loyal supporters, including gallerists, collectors and his wife Rosa Loy. The film shows the artist in his studio, where he wrestles with his image world, observes critical exchanges with his wife, and visits his collectors worldwide. ...
