Coming Face to Face

Three years have gone by since my mum died. With my dad and brother we have never talked about her death and we still haven’t forgiven ourselves. When I met Manuel, my Colombian boyfriend, the question arose how can I introduce him to someone, who is not physically there anymore. So I decided to make a documentary about mum’s absence and how all of us try to process it and get on with our everyday life. The so called “pillow talk” between Manuel and me became the core of the film, trying to help me to find answers for my doubts. How do we deal with absence? How does a teenage boy and how does his father deal with the loss of Mum? How can we find answers and relief to all our guilt and pain? My family’s dreams, intimate conversations, and honest confessions construct an oneiric mosaic of Mum’s everlasting presence and the story of accepting the ways of life.
