Synopse

Free Spaces is a journey into the hearts of four post-Soviet cities: Yerevan in Armenia, Tbilisi in Georgia, Chisinau in Moldova and Kyiv in Ukraine. It explores the dynamic of the relationships between authority and civil society, individual and collective, between architecture and the social meaning of spaces, searching for ways of new urban citizenships - for the global metropolis as "a factory for the production of the common", as philosophers Hardt/Negri would say. Radical contemporary architecture from the 60s and urban face lifting of today, video diaries of local artists and activists, interviews with architects and urban planners, urban interventions and citizens' reactions: these are the main elements of Free Spaces.
