Every year an international championship takes place. It is a championship like no other; it carries the name of Homeless World Cup. The purpose of this competition is to instill into participants hope for the desire to start a new life. According to the organizers of the event over 77 percent of the homeless who receive a chance to take part in the tournament find strength within themselves to embark on the new stage in their lives. They repel alcohol and drugs, they find jobs. Championship takes place in different countries. During filming of this movie the championship was taking place in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro. There are few main characters in this film. One of them is Stasys, the founder and manager of the team. He is a smart and prudent manager. He tries to take control of this diverse team using his own methods, but sometimes even his methods fails. He haven’t been drinking for several years and tries to help others. The other character is a team rookie Deimantas. He has also given up on drinking. He’s trying desperately to avoid temptation, but find it hard to resist when seeing others drink. Jara is a young drug addict. He was once a promising young footballer, but wasted his great talent. His story is unique, not to mention the fact that he was six times under resuscitation, but was strong enough to survive. He is building a new life and wants to stay clean. There’s the antagonist in this film who oppose the main characters – the leader of team support group Gediminas, nicknamed “art director”. He looks like a healthy ordinary young man. Smart and witty CEO. However, under his always-smiling, easy-going mask he hides a personal tragedy. He is losing his second family and keeps drinking in order to stop thinking of his own problems. He is a type of alcoholic we will be talking about in this film. Alcohol dependence is not influenced by social factor. Alcohol is everywhere. It is a disease that does not choose victims by social status or the amount of wealth. The aim of the movie is to document the team's twisted road to the championship: the tough training, preparation, temptation. Together, let us take a look at the lives of team members, their stories and reasons, which led them to where they are now. After the championship, or maybe even during, behold a spark of a desire to start a new life; the moment of happiness, which will initiate something new. Emotional transformation; desire to change – this is the meaning of it all. The mood and language manner of the film will be neither slow and sentimental nor didactically serious. There is no need to moralize, or superficially dramatize/romanticize the situation. The visual language of the film will be conveyed through humorous, straightforward, revealing situations and the characters not lacking in flaws. The people will be presented as they really are: happy or suffering – living their emotions.
