Arkaitz Basterra Zalbide (1974) was born and brought up in Amorebieta-Etxano (near Bilbao) Spain. After getting a degree and working in business for some years, he studied film directing at the New York Film Academy in 2003-04. That is where he met the Czech master Vojtech Jasny, whose films and mentoring would influence him deeply. His life and his film would become totally inseparable and after he accomplishing a documentary film about Jasny, Basterra Zalbide decided to move to Prague, where he lives permanently since 2010.
