Now a PhD candidate in film studies, Elza Gauja studied film directing and acting at the Latvian Academy of Culture. Her diploma work, full length feature film 'A Postcard from Rome" (2024) was awarded the Best Feature at the Latvian National Film awards 'Lielais Kristaps'. Her debut fiction film 'Keep Smiling, Mom!’ (2022) was a local box office hit and her debut documentary ‘Meanwhile in Lucavsala’ (2022) won the Best Debut Prize at the Latvian National Film Awards ‘Lielais Kristaps’). Elza's documentary short ‘The Professor and Gena” (2021), which she directed and produced, was nominated for the Latvian National Film Prize ‘Lielais Kristaps’ in two categories. Elza has participated in a number of film workshops and labs.
