She studied history of theater and art at the University of Vienna. In 1985, she received her PhD. She writes novels, poetry, and film scripts as well as plays for theater and radio. Since 2002 she has been working on the multi-media Baghdad Project, consisting of an audio book, an essay, a radio feature (which received an award), and a film. In 2016, her latest novel Der Edelsteingarten (Garden of Jewels) and a volume of poetry Sprichst du mit mir (Are You Talking to Me) were published. Her last radio play Der Caravaggio Krimi was broadcast in 2019. A focus of her work is on contemporary history, especially the Shoa.
