Kuba Mikurda (born 1981) studied psychology (MA, 2006), philosophy (PhD, 2012) and film production (2012-13). He was a student of the philosopher and psychoanalyst, Slavoj Žižek. He works as a film critic, film curator, film book series writer and editor, TV show host & TV director. He wrote and edited books about contemporary film authors (Terry Gilliam, Brothers Quay, Guy Maddin, Tsai Ming-liang, Walerian Borowczyk) and surrealism in Polish cinema. Mikurda taught visual culture and psychoanalysis at the Jagiellonian University, Krakow (2010-2012); he currently teaches at the Film School in Łódź, where he runs a course on new European cinema. In years 2010-2013 he was a co-writer and director of Aktualnosci Filmowe / Film News TV show (Canal+ Poland). This programme was three times nominated to the Polish Film Institute Award (2011-2013) and also won the Polish edition of British Council’s „International Young Screen Entrepreneur” (2008).
