South African Deon Maas is the Co-director/Co-producer of Punk in Africa and is the owner of Meerkat Media, a Johannesburg-based production house. He has produced and directed a number of documentaries including Durban Poison, along with Jeffrey Brown, Keith Jones and DOP Gary Griffin as well as Flowers of the Revolution (2007-2009, NFVF commission), Who Killed Johannes Kerkorrel? (2005, co-produced with SABC 2), and My Big Fat Afrikaner Wedding (2004, co-produced with SABC 2). He is also the producer of the award-winning Jam Sandwich reality show and several TV commercials, including one recently for FIFA’s World Cup. A media personality, Deon has hosted TV talk shows, contributes a weekly column to several national newspapers and just released a book – Witboy in Africa. He is the former head of Gallo Records and was the “mean” judge on African Idol.
