Rights Stuff is an international consultancy providing content strategy and pragmatic licensing services, including content acquisition, distribution & development with specific emphasis on maximizing the potential of ‘Rights’ and ‘Windows’ across evolving VOD, digital and traditional media. On the platform/channel side, Rights Stuff provides content strategy, curates content, and negotiates deals in pay TV/VOD (TVOD, SVOD, ADVOD, DTO etc) across various devices for international traditional and digital media services, in startup, operational and expansion phases. Wendy and her team provide shortcuts, trends, concrete knowhow (pricing, deal terms, foreign markets etc) around content ranging from big brand (studio, minimajor) to independent, including more eclectic, niche, thematic, foreign language, festival, etc. On the other side of the table, Rights Stuff assists content owners (producers, distributors, sales agents, aggregators, festivals) who want to sell to, or produce with, such digital/VOD/pay services, including beyond the Big5, and overseas. For example, Rights Stuff is an active collaborator with CMPA (Canadian Media Production Association providing ongoing research, seminars, toolkits, and authored a comprehensive database of international VOD buyers designed to help guide CMPA producer members into fuller exploitation of the overseas digital distribution marketplace. Not conventional distributors, we usually work on an agency/consultant basis, and help balance traditional with digital buyers and, funders. Advice includes “hybrid distribution’’, social media, audience engagement, and pragmatic approaches to rights issues, all so as to maximize revenues and audiences globally. We also selectively broker deals with alternative funders, such as brands, consumer electronics, and VOD platforms, who are increasingly commissioning new content formats (webisodes, 2nd screen and cross platform).
