The Young and Film Festival is the oldest festival in Poland at which only debuts can be seen. Debuts have been made in Koszalin by Krzysztof Zanussi, Agnieszka Holland, Xawery Żuławski, Tomasz Wasilewski, Łukasz Palkowski, Sławomir Fabicki, Katarzyna Rosłaniec, Maria Sadowska, Kuba Czekaj, Jan P. Matuszyński, Marcin Wrona and Dariusz Gajewski, among others.

The Young and Film Festival is not only about three competitions: Full-length Feature Debuts, Full-length Documentary Debuts and Short Film Debuts, but also out-of-competition screenings in the sections: Foreign Debuts, In the Long Run. Retrospectives, or screenings of films by jurors, as well as special screenings, but also meetings Honesty for Honesty with the competition film crews, industry meetings for festival participants, or the festival club, which hosts concerts during the festival and author Maciej Buchwald's meetings under the slogan 'Zawód:aktor.', during which he informally and unpredictably quizzes actors and actresses. Admission to all open events at the festival is free.
