Synopsis
Marina, a Ukrainian cinematographer, is haunted by memories of the violence her father brought home from the Soviet-Afghan War, which shaped her fears of closeness and having a family. Her professional path leads her to Vyacheslav Kiprienko, who was the last Soviet soldier to leave Afghanistan, who has preserved rare 8mm film and a bundle of love letters from that time. Filming him reading the letters one by one, Marina delves into Vyacheslav's personal story of the Soviet withdrawal, as well as into a past that awakens her own trauma. A fragile bond develops between them: tense but tender, tied to the burden of a past that cannot be changed. Could Marina find a way to overcome this legacy?
