Synopsis

The documentary depicts the life and work of prof. Jaroslav Krejčí (born in 1916), who lived in Czechoslovakia and since 1969 in England. After studying law and economics at the Charles University in Prague, he worked for the state administration until 1954 when he became a political prisoner. In 1969, he returned shortly to academic work. After the Warsaw Pact invasion, he went to exile and settled in England, where he started working at Lancaster University. He was awarded a full professorship in 1976 and a honorary doctorate for literature in 2000. He worked for the departments of European and religious studies and lectured around the world. Since 1990, he has been active in the Czech Republic and was presented the Medal of National Merit by Václav Havel in 1998. He is a member of the Learned Society of the Czech Republic. He also founded the Anna and Jaroslav Krejčí Research Endowment Fund, a private fund supporting young researchers in the field of social sciences.
