Synopsis

Seven well-know European documentary filmmakers portraying the everyday life, social and cultural phenomena of seven neighborhoods of Riga tell story of the city in a light it has not been seen yet.

Over the Roads and River is a story of a modern Eastern European metropolis in the 21st century told by seven European contemporary documentary filmmakers in a feature-length documentary film. Latvian documentary film classic Ivars Seleckis, Rainer Komers (Germany), Audrius Stonys (Lithuania), Bettina Henekel (Austria), Jaak Kilmi (Estonia), Jon Bang Carlsen (Denmark) and Sergey Loznitsa (Russia) meet in order to tell seven consecutive stories of the city in a light that it has not been seen yet. It is Riga’s stories about itself and us based on the studies of Latvian anthropologists about neighborhoods, people, their homes and life in Riga, referring to the cinematic language of the Riga School of Poetic Documentary.
