Heimito and the Doderers

Heimito und die Doderers

Directing: Herbert Krill

Synopsis

A personal documentary about Heimito von Doderer (1896-1966), who once was one of the most famous writers in the German-speaking world. But after his death, he quickly became forgotten, except in his native Austria, where almost all of his stories take place. Imogena Doderer, the youngest of his great-nieces, works as a TV journalist in Vienna. She would like to find out more about the man whose books she never really could relate to, but whose presence was always felt in her family. She sets out to interview those relatives who still remember him, as well as experts who have studied him closely. Finally, she understands why her father adored Heimito von Doderer so much, while her mother preferred to keep her distance.
