Synopsis
The Sonderkommando, a special unit, was a group of prisoners who worked at the crematoria. This work consisted of transporting the corpses from the gas chambers to the crematoria and putting them in the ovens. In th efinal phase of the camp`sexistence, four crematoriawere operating in Birkenau.. A separate comanda worked at each installation. The entire Sonderkommando would periodically by gassed and replaced by new prisoners. Nevertheless, one hundred members of the Sonderkommando managed to survive and some of them give testimony. The film also includes three photographs taken by prisoners at crematorium no. V, drawings by Marian Kolodziej and David Orele, a hand-written account preserved in a bottle, model of the crematorium.
