The Year of the Widow

Interpreter Petra (Pavla Beretová) has to come to terms with the fact that she has become a widow at the age of forty due to a tragic event. She soon discovers that grief is not the only challenge she has to face. Added to this are the worries about her teenage daughter (Julie Šoulcová) and the pressure from her manipulative mother-in-law (Zuzana Kronerová). And then there is the whole bureaucratic machinery that comes to life with a person's death: mortgages, loans, rents, fees, endless inheritance proceedings. However, among the ruins of her life, Petra finds the courage to start anew step by step... The feature-length film, based on true events, is a fragile and moving study of the process of grieving in our contemporary world.
