Mustafa Ünlü was born in 1963, in Ankara. Graduated from University of Ankara, Faculty of Communications. During his university education he worked for several news papers and news magazines as journalist and then, in order, for TRT news department, 32. Day news programme. In 1989, he started to work in the area of documentary filmmaking. He also became the founder and partner of Shakti News and Production House in 1993, Kutup Ayısı Documentary Productions in 2000. For 20 years, he is making documentary films in these production companies or as an independent filmmaker and for 3 years as the director of International 1001 Documentary Film Festival in Istanbul.
