Synopse
Document Virtual Girlfriends reveals the world of "creators" and "fans" on OnlyFans, an online platform with subscription content for adults. In four story lines, it shows their motivations, the transformation of their perception of intimacy and also provides a reflection on the impact of this new social network on their lives.
As the main protagonist OF creator Inked Dory begins her training sessions for new "creators," women sit around her and listen. Dory teaches them to talk about work in a new vocabulary: you are "OF creators", you make "content for your fans"... and explains marketing strategies.
The next character is one of the workshop participants - Rosalinda, who really is becoming the new OF "creator". At first, she only appears in a hood on her profile, but after a few months she decides to reveal her identity. The film follows her over the course of a year, as her mother finds out about her new job, quits her original job and sets up a business. How does one explain such a decision to one's own child?
The view from the "other side", i.e. the users themselves, is crucial. Through two "fans" we learn what attracts them to paid content. How do they themselves build relationships with the 'creators'? What are their expectations in real relationships?
The film captures a global phenomenon in its very beginnings. Our aim is to map how the boundaries of what we perceive as "intimate content" in relationships and intimacy have shifted. Through 4 characters, we ask how contact with the OF platform changes the perception of the world and what problems does it bring to the "real" sphere of everyday life?
