Czech/co-production projects at Czech Docs... Coming Soon:
A New Shift (dir. Jindřich Andrš, prod. Augustína Micková, CZ) - Ex Oriente Film 2018 project
Tomas is almost fifty, he is radical football fan of his club Baník and for the past 25 years he has worked in the Paskov mine. Demand for coal has been falling and the mine was closed. Tomas and his dismissed colleagues were offered to try to retrain in new profession, which is now in the highest demand - the programmer. Tomas accepted the life challenge and we follow his story of this radical change in an intimate time-lapse portrait. Can he succeed in such a different profession? How does a radical Baník fan with a mining slang fit into a group of young programmers? And what about the rest of us - will we soon be forced to face a similar challenge as a result of the ongoing automation of work?

Brotherhood (dir. Francesco Montagner, prod. Pavla Janoušková Kubečková, CZ, IT)
Džabir, Usama and Uzejr are three young brothers in a Sunni family of shepherds. Since childhood, their father Ibrahim has rigidly trained them in the principles of the Quran and has filled their minds with stories of the Bosnian War. In an intimate portrayal of contemporary Bosnia and its insular Salafi community, Brotherhood is an anthropological exploration of youth, brotherhood, religion, and extremism in the most radicalized region of Europe.

Every Single Minute (dir. Erika Hníková, prod. Jiří Konečný, CZ, SK)
The Hanuliaks dedicate literally every single minute of their lives to the physical and mental priming of their son using complex multi-developmental parenting. Training and exercise alternate each other in an almost machine-like rhythm. The film captures these efforts for the duration of one year and through raw scenes from the Hanuliaks family life raises a stream of questions regarding the meaning of parenting in today’s society as well as the one-way focus on performance and the possible “robotization” of one’s life.

At Full Throttle (dir. Miro Remo, prod. Miro Remo, Zuzana Piussi, Vít Janeček, CZ, SK)
Slovak Jitka and Czech Jaroslav, a couple in their 50s, are the protagonists of our documentary. Jitka is the oldest autocross rider and Jaroslav, her former classmate from elementary school, takes care of her car. Both are members of the DRAKKAR motorcycle association and the story follows their attempt to defend the title of the Carpathian Autocross Cup. But even more important is their relationship, which is actually a renewal of their childhood love, they have come back to from their lives trapped in dead ends and series of wrong decisions. With a desire to live, they fight today in a team, both on autocross tracks and beyond it. Change and courage can make difference and "correct" the life.

Wolves on the Borders (dir. Martin Páv, prod. Zuzana Kučerová, CZ) - Ex Oriente Film 2018 project
Wolves on the Borders takes the controversy around the reintroduction of wolves to the Czech countryside to tell a broader tale of humankind’s ambivalent relationship towards nature. It has been more than two hundred years since the last wolf was killed in the Broumov region, where the story takes place. It is also the area with the largest concentration of sheep in the Czech Republic. The film looks at the wolves as providing an opportunity to transform our society into one that is more open and tolerant. Will we step up to the possibilities, or lose them?
