Czech docs at festivals

Find about Czech (and co-production) documentaries screened at IDFA, DOK Leipzig, PÖFF, Cottbus, DOC NYC and other festivals from October to December 2020.

A New Shift by Jindřich Andrš got three awards at Ji.hlava IDFF (October 26-31) and at the same time it was a big hit at DOK Leipzig (October 26 - November 1), where it got MDR Film Prize and Golden Dove - The Audience Jury Award.



Czech documentary veteran Helena Třeštíková showed her recent film Hany at IDFA (November 18-December 6), where it had a World Premiere in the IDFA Competition for Mid-Length Documentary. Vitaly Mansky's film Gorbachev. Heaven, a co-production betwen Latvia (Vertov) and Czech Republic (Hypermarket Film), got the IDFA Award for Best Directing.

The Vasulka Effect by Hrafnhildur Gunnarsdóttir was part of the DOC NYC (November 11-19), Traces of Landscape (dir. Petr Záruba) and Pripyat Piano (dir. Eliška Cílková) were screened at Festival dei Popoli (November 15-22). Pripyat Piano had a Czech premiere at Ji.hlava IDFF, was screened at New Narratives Film Festival Taipei in Taiwan (October 7–11) and got Special Mention at Pärnu filmifestial (October 17-25). At Imagine Science Film Festival (October 16-23) it was given the Symbiosis Award for the film that best embraces the idea of collaboration, scientific storytelling and originality. Wolves at the Borders by Martin Páv got Special Mention in Czech Joy competition at Ji.hlava IDFF and "Anthropology and Environment Prize" at Festival international Jean Rouch - Comité du film ethnographique (November 13 - December 6). The film was screened at Cottbus FilmFestival along with Dmitry Bogolubov's Town of Glory. #sandrainuganda by Filip Remunda was part of Oczy Obiektyw Film Festival (October 23-26) and Fiorenzo Serra Film Festival (November 4-15), where Nikola Krutilová's Daily Manure was also premiered. Veronika Janatková's Ticket to the Moon will be screened at Diorama IFF New Delhi (December 18 - January 1). Kiruna - A Brand New World by Greta Stocklassa opened DokuBaku (November 30 - December 6) and was screened at Buzău IFF (November 21-26). Tomáš Krupa's The Good Death was screened at Cardiff IFF (October 27- November 3).
